Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
